DIY: Bulky Cowl Scarf

Wednesday, January 5, 2011
Hi everyone! Since the weather has turned so cold, and lots of my holiday activities were outdoors, I needed something super cozy and fashionable to keep me warm! I love all of the bulky cowls I've been seeing, and I needed something super quick! I found this crochet pattern on Ravelry and knew I had to make it! It only took a couple of nights watching tv to finish, and two skeins of bulky yarn which I got on sale at Michael's! This scarf is definitely warm! Check out On the Wings of  Dove for the super easy pattern, she also has two more versions here.

Wrapped twice and shown with my 70s collegiate tweed blazer.

Unwrapped for when you get too warm :)

Have you made anything yourself lately? Any patterns or tutorials you've found on the web that you'd like to share??

That is really lovely and I think the vibrant colour is fabulous. It's actually one of my daughter's favourite colours right now.

The only craft my mother ever knew was crochet.

Did she teach me?

Nope.

The textiles scare me, but the more I see projects as gorgeous as this..

Beautiful!! I love how handy the cowls are....and I love the color you chose. I just made my first knit cowl from a Lion Brand pattern. Can't crochet though, it like Mandarin to me!!

Can you share what color and what brand of yarn did you use?

Carrie at In the Hammock Blog said...

kmenho, I used Loops and Threads "Charisma" in Electric Blue, from Michael's!

ooh! a kind I haven't used yet. Will look for it during my next trip to Michaels. I really loved that song by Icehouse from the '80s "Electric Blue" - I wonder if it's a sign! thx for sharing...

Beautiful! I've been thinking of making an oversize infinity scarf for myself, one can never have too many scarves after all.... Love the blog!

I'm so inspired... got the electric blue and instead of sc's my stitches were dsc... to make it look more lacey. And I twisted the first row - so it's shaped like a mobius strip. I've made a red one, this electric blue (my fav by far!) and a sky blue one. Gonna check out more Charisma yarn! thx!
Oh... the video to show you how to make the twist:

(this is part 2 - she shows how to do basic stitches in the first part)
